Football Federation of Armenia President Slams Facebook User’s Proposal in Developing Football in Armenia

Football (a.k.a. soccer) isn’t developing in Armenia’s Armavir marz (province) since there isn’t anyone who loves football and who will establish a football club. This statement was posted by President of the Football Federation of Armenia and Republican Party of Armenia MP Ruben Hayrapetyan (pictured) on his Facebook page Friday. (Note all comments are translated from the original Armenian.)

“None of the businessmen in Armavir want to sponsor any club — this when there is an amazing field in Armavir,” wrote Hayrapetyan in response to a question by another user posted on his page (screenshot below).

Another user posted his suggestions for how to develop football in Armenia in the coming years (screenshot below):

“Mr. Hayrapetyan, [I propose] the following scenario for the development of football in the coming 10 or maybe 15 years: 1. The championship will be held with at least 12 teams, 2. There will be a first priority group and a championship of substitutes, while the players of the second teams will be divided between youth and substitutes championships respectively, 3. The annual average budget for championship teams will be at least 3–5 million dollars, 4. Football will be swiftly moved to the provinces, 5. Leading teams will cooperate with average and above average European clubs.”

In response to this proposed plan, the Football Federation of Armenia president wrote: “Please don’t show me the way. We have a very clearly developed program and we are moving as per this program.”
