‘Woman=Man’: Armenian NGO Organizes Flashmob for Gender Equality

Local NGO Society Without Violence is planning a flashmob to encourage a society free from violence and to raise awareness on gender equality.

During the event, participants will distribute and release balloons, leaflets and paper airplanes with articles from the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that particularly reference discrimination against women and girls.

“The flashmob aims for each member of society to internalize the notion ‘woman=man,’ which will be the key that will try to disseminate love and respect toward others, [thereby] preventing violence,” reads the event description in part as posted on the Society Without Violence website.

The flashmob is set to take place at 7 pm on Wednesday, Jul. 27 near Swan Lake in downtown Yerevan. The event is open to the public; however, organizers ask interested parties to confirm their participation by calling (010) 266415 or (094) 090071 or sending an email to [email protected].
