Ruling Coalition, Opposition See Eye to Eye on HAK Youth Incident with Police: Harutyunyan

Speaking to reporters after the almost 5-hour meeting between members of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) and ruling coalition on Tuesday, head of the coalition delegation David Harutyunyan said the two parties, it seems, see eye to eye regarding the Aug. 9 incident between HAK activists and police — both parties believe the legal system was non-discriminatory.

“And also we — I mean the working group — are confident that the legal system will continue to be non-discriminatory to all,” he said.

Commenting on HAK senior representative Levon Zurabyan’s statement that the ruling coalition’s document was much better than the one proposed by HAK “because it better provides the grounds for holding pre-term presidential and parliamentary elections in Armenia,” Harutyunyan said:

“Of course, from a rhetorical point of view, perhaps, Mr. Zurabyan used a beautiful trick, but, naturally, it’s the opposite. In our opinion, at this time we don’t see that any of HAK’s grounds provides a basis for pre-term elections.”
