Karabakh Military Unit Soldier Insists He Has Nothing to Do with Conscript in Psych Ward

Vardan Vardanyan, father of Hovhannes Vardanyan, who up until last month was serving in a military unit in Askeran, Nagorno-Karabakh, but is currently admitted in the psychiatric hospital in Yerevan’s Nork district, provided Epress.am with the phone number of the his son’s unit commander, Shalon.

An Epress.am reporter, upon calling the number, was told by the man who answered that he is serving in the Askeran military unit, but he is not the commander.

“I’m currently on vacation; I’m in Kobuleti [a seaside resort town in Georgia]. What do you want from me, what do I have to do with that case? I’ll be back in a month,” said the unidentified person who answered. If that is so, then the man in question would have left for holiday either yesterday or today as men serving in the military are unable to take more than one month’s vacation.

Note, Hovhannes Vardanyan was admitted to the psychiatric hospital approximately a month ago. He says that officers wanted to beat and sexually assault him.
