VIDEO: Burial Ceremony Marking the Death of Russian Democracy

A video uploaded on YouTube recently, apparently shot on Dec. 5 in London, bears the title “The Burial of Russian Democracy.” In the video, a hearse drives up to the curbside and men dressed in black suits carry the coffin and place it on the sidewalk outside the Russian Embassy to the UK. In the coffin is an unidentified person with her mouth taped shut and a black sash covering her eyes, surrounded by red carnation flowers.

The coffin is placed adjacent to a placard on the sidewalk which reads “1991–2011: Russian democracy died after a long illness without regaining consciousness” in English and Russia. A group of youth stand next to the coffin and sing songs of mourning.

Recall, protests against electoral fraud have been ongoing in the Russian cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg following the Dec. 4 State Duma elections.
