Anahit Vardanyan, who on Dec. 11 attempted suicide at the RA Human Rights Defender’s Office, was discharged from the hospital yesterday. She received professional treatment and had consultations with a psychiatrist, who confirmed that the 64-year-old Gyumri resident does not have a medical illness, Dr. Ashkhen Ghazaryan, a doctor in the Armenia Republican Medical Center’s toxicology department, informed Epress.am earlier today.
Living under dire social conditions, the woman who drank peroxide in the Ombudsman’s office was taken to hospital with a chemical burn in her oral cavities, where, according to Dr. Ghazaryan, she was assigned detoxification treatment.
Earlier, at the hospital, Vardanyan had said that to live is meaningless and she does not regret what she did. According to the doctor, she now thinks completely differently.
“Any person who attempts suicide undergoes mandatory psychiatric treatment — despite the fact that Anahit is a highly balanced and smart woman. She saw a psychiatrist, on the basis of which she came to the conclusion of situational reaction with a suicide attempt; that is, her taking that step was due to being under the influence of the moment and several other reasons,” said Dr. Ghazaryan.
The treatment applied to the woman taken to hospital with chemical burns in her oral cavities, stomach, and mucous membrane, and acute poisoning, according to the doctor, resulted in a positive outcome.
“From now on, Anahit will be under the direct supervision of the local doctor. The important thing is that she feels fine and she even sent a thank you note to our hospital staff. She also said that prior to returning to Gyumri, she’ll spend a few days in her sister-in-law’s house in Yerevan, then her sister-in-law’s husband will take her home,” Dr. Ghazaryan described.
“Anahit lives with her daughter and her five children and, as she said, she tried to commit suicide to improve their situation. Anahit is very measured and calculated in all her actions and movements, and most importantly, she realized her mistake and assured us she will never do it again,” said the doctor.
