France’s Adoption of Genocide Bill a ‘Logical Continuation’ of Sarkozy’s Armenia Visit

Isabelle Guisnel, First Counsellor and Chargée d’Affaires of the French Embassy in Armenia, speaking to local daily Yerkir, said that adoption of the bill to criminalize denial of the Armenian Genocide was the logical continuation of French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s visit to France.

“The adoption of the bill to criminalize denial of the Armenian Genocide complements France’s adoption of the law to recognize the [Armenian] Genocide 10 years ago. And it’s necessary to mention that adoption of the bill is aimed at punishing all crimes against humanity in general,” she said.

As to what extent French-Turkey relations will become tense after adoption of the bill, the French diplomat didn’t wish to predict.

“The future will tell,” she said, reminding the media that the bill has yet to be approved by the Senate.
