Leaders of the three parties that comprise Armenia’s ruling coalition — Armenian President and leader of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) Serzh Sargsyan, Prosperous Armenia party (BHK) leader Gagik Tsarukyan and Orinats Yerkir (Rule of Law, or OEK) party leader Artur Baghdasaryan — met on Monday evening at the president’s office.
Speaking to RFE/RL’s Armenian service (Azatutyun), HHK spokesperson and parliamentary vice chair Eduard Sharmazanov said the coalition leaders’ meetings are regular events in the country’s political arena and the more the parliamentary elections approach, the more often these meetings will take place.
As for reports of internal disputes (particularly between HHK and BHK, as a result of which it is said BHK will leave the coalition), Sharmazanov said: “If I am stating a conviction that the the leaders of the three coalition parties will continue to meet, with that I am also responding to your question.”
Unconfirmed reports have indicated that a new memorandum will be signed at one of these meetings; however, the HHK spokesperson didn’t wish to comment on this news.
