Criminal Case Launched into Fraud During Hrazdan Mayoral Elections

Criminal proceedings have been filed with the RA Police Kotayk investigations division for an unidentified individual’s attempt to vote in someone else’s name during Sunday’s Hrazdan mayoral elections, according to a statement issued by the RA Prosecutor General.

“At around 12:15 pm on Feb. 12, 2012, during the Hrazdan mayoral elections, at polling station 25/22, a citizen attempted to vote instead of Benik Margaryan registered in the city of Hrazdan. In particular, he presented [Margaryan’s] passport and received a ballot, but prior to entering the polling booth, the precinct electoral commission determined that the voter was not Benik Margaryan. After the fraud was discovered, the man in question, leaving the blank ballot and taking Benik Margaryan’s passport, fled.

“A criminal case has been launched in connection with this incident,” reads the statement.
