Burberry Sues Armenian Coffee Chain Jazzve Over Trademark Infringement

The British luxury brand Burberry Ltd. has filed proceedings against Armenian coffee chain Jazzve, the coffee company’s attorney Grigor Minasyan informed Epress.am today.

The British company believes that Jazzve is infringing on its trademark by draping chairs in the cafes and restaurants it owns with the Burberry signature pattern, which in February 2011 was registered with the RA Ministry of Economy’s Intellectual Property Agency.

According to Jazzve’s representative, his client doesn’t belief that the company has violated any rights.

“The Intellectual Property Agency will discuss the issue of clarifying the trademark. We’re now waiting for the outcome of that examination. If we’re not satisfied with the response, we will appeal to other expert companies,” Minasyan said.

Burberry Ltd. has appealed to the Court of General Jursdiction of Kentron and Nork-Marash Administrative Districts of Yerevan with the demand to terminate the illegal use of its trademark. The claim will be examined by Judge Ruben Nersisyan.
