There is no military solution to this conflict. We urge the sides to prepare their populations for peace, not war, and to refrain from any provocative rhetoric or actions on the ground,” said US State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland at a Mar. 14 daily press briefing in Washington when a reporter asked for her opinion on Azerbaijan’s “Defense Minister Safar Abiyev in Tehran[‘s statement] that Azerbaijan will use military methods to free its territory from occupation.”

Commenting on reports of Azerbaijan arresting 22 people suspected of plotting attacks on the US and Israeli Embassies in Baku on behalf of Iran, the US State Department spokesperson said:

“We have seen these reports. We are in the process of coordinating with our Embassy in Baku. Frankly, I don’t have a full picture of who these folks are, but we will get something back for you later in the day.”
