The Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun, or ARF-D) considers it too early to talk about the likelihood of forming an alliance in parliament, but the party is ready to collaborate with any other party that will help implement their political program comprised of tasks in four main areas, said ARF-D Supreme Council member Armen Rustamyan at a Supreme Council meeting today.
According to ARF-D member Artyusha Shahbazyan, ARF-D, which fights many issues with the collective efforts of the other parliamentary opposition, the Heritage Party, right now is not so sure that it will collaborate with the Heritage Party’s new faction, considering that the party has opted to enter the elections with the Free Democrats, an opposition party established last year whose prominent members include politicians who split from the Armenian National Congress.
“The Heritage Party has joined with a party with which we have disagreements, mainly with respect to our national program. There are people in the Free Democrats who supported the Armenia-Turkey Protocols,” recalled Shahbazyan.
ARF-D bureau member and faction leader Vahan Hovhannesyan mentioned that ARF-D is participating in the election with the intention of winning and believes it has the grounds to have such hopes because the people already “believe in neither the freshness of the cheese in the mousetrap nor the empty promises.”
Though he refrained from predicting how the elections will be held, Hovhannesyan did say that judging from the fact that the Republican Party of Armenia is trying to “forcibly” pass the bill on the rule of law during a state of emergency, the authorities are not ruling out protests during elections, which is unacceptable for ARF-D.
