The Republican Party’s slogan has to be circumvented because believing it is a result of being changed, said Free Democrats vice chair Anush Sedrakyan, speaking to journalists in Yerevan today and referring to the party’s election slogan “Let’s believe in order to change”.
For years, the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) has had possessed government and administrative resources, has held the majority in parliament and in the executive branch of government, but the work it’s carried out hasn’t been positive and productive for Armenia, she said.
“If a political party is consistently implementing a policy that leads to bad results for the country, then consequently, all social research studies give their vote to the opposite party,” she said.
Speaking as well about the new names on the HHK’s list of election candidates, Sedrakyan recalled the expression “the new is the well-forgotten old”. She emphasized that there were many politicians who had gone underground but now appear on HHK’s list, and particularly optimistic plans shouldn’t be expected from them.
HHK MP Vardan Ayvazyan (pictured), the other speaker at today’s press conference, however, defended his party, saying that the HHK candidates’ list is “very beautiful”.
Ayvazyan said, the HHK, unlike the others, declares that it is fighting purely for itself, while the rest, for some reason, are fighting against HHK.
HHK considers all political parties as its equal competitor, Ayvazyan continued, and has a respectful attitude toward all political entities, which is why it will ask that they also be respectful toward it.
The lawmaker pointed out that the Republican Party’s primary issue is to have maximum presence in parliament.
“Wow to the political team that doesn’t strive for the maximum. Not having it now, they strive for 25–30 percent; us having it now, shouldn’t we strive for at least that much?” he said.
