About $1 Billion Required to Solve Problems of Dilapidated Buildings in Armenia: Ministry

There are 450 buildings in Armenia that are designated as "level 3 emergency" buildings, which require strengthening and improving their seismic safety. About $1 billion is required to resolve the problems of these buildings, said RA Minister of Urban Development Narek Sargsyan in parliament today, adding there are also a significant number of level 4 emergency building, that are subject to demolition.

According to the minister, the problem is very important and to solve it, several approaches to the maintenance of buildings must be changed, including the dormitories (traditionally were provided to Armenian refugees from Azerbaijan).

In 2013, the RA Ministry of Urban Development spent 641 million AMD (around $1.55 million) on housing construction.
