Armenia was ranked first among the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) in mobile internet penetration, reports Lenta.ru [RU], citing research by J’son & Partners Consulting.
According to findings from this research, mobile internet penetration in Armenia was 68% last year. Rounding out the top 3 in the CIS are Kazakhstan (at 67%) and Russia (at 63%).
J’son & Partners Consulting claims that there were more than 2 million mobile internet users in Armenia in 2013.
As for fourth generation networks (4G/LTE), according to data retrieved in May 2014, the LTE network was introduced in all countries surveyed among the CIS with the exception of Belarus, while the 3G network exists in all countries. Furthermore, operating in all the surveyed countries except for Azerbaijan and Tajikistan is the high-speed 3G technology, DC HSPA+, which ensures download speeds of up to 42 MB/second.
In Armenia, VivaCell-MTS introduced the LTE network in 2011, and its coverage now reaches around 33% of the country's population.
