Three Armenian civilians were killed Thursday in the country’s northeastern Tavush province as Azerbaijani armed forces fired mortars and automatic rifles of various caliber towards a number of border villages, the RA Defense Ministry said in an official statement.
Two of the victims, 40-year-old Sona Revazyan and 94-year-old Shushan Asatryan, were killed in their home in Berdavan village of Tavush province, while 82-year-old Paytsar Aghajanyan died in Paravakar, another village on the northeastern border.
“The RA Ministry of Defense is once again calling on the Azerbaijani side to refrain from steps that might further escalate the tension and to take effective measures towards stabilizing the situation. We call on the Azerbaijani population living along the border with Armenia to stop acting as a shield for their armed forces.
“Armenian Armed Forces will take appropriate measures to stabilize the situation on the border and to restrain the Azerbaijani forces. Azerbaijan’s military and political leadership will bear full responsibility for the consequences,” the ministry’s statement read.
