In the period from July–September 2015, 72 cases of human rights violations by police officers were recorded in Armenia. Compared with the second half of the year, the number of cases has reduced by 13 (or 15%), while it has increased by 16 (28%) as compared with the first half of 2015, Helsinki Citizens' Assembly-Vanadzor office said in a report on the cases of human rights violations by Police, prepared through media monitoring.
42 of the incidents, the report says, occurred either during rallies and assemblies or as a result thereof; this indicator, as compared with the second half of 2015, has reduced by 7 (14%), and increased by 16 (28%) compared with the first half.
During the previous two quarters, the right to freedom and personal inviolability, as well as the right to peaceful and unarmed assembly were mostly violated; while in the third quarter, violations of the right to peaceful assembly, and the right to be free from physical violence prevailed in the country.
In the reporting period of July–September, 1 case of violation of journalists' right to legal professional activities was recorded, whereas in the first quarter of 2015, there were 2 cases of violation of this right, and in the second quarter – 9 cases.
In 59 out of the 85 cases of human rights violations recorded in the second quarter of 2015, a total of 434 violations occurred; as to the remaining 26 cases, it was not possible to determine the exact number of violations based on available data, authers said. In the third quarter, 64 out of the 72 cases of the third quarter, a total of 400 violations were recorded; the number of violation in the remaining 8 cases is unclear.
