Armenia’s Recently Enlarged Communities Elect Local Leaders

Residents of Armenia's Lori, Syunik, and Tavush provinces voted on Sunday in the first ever elections into the local self-government bodies of their recently enlarged communities of Tatev, Tumanyan, and Dilijan. 

Republican Party member Armen Santrosyan was elected the leader of Tavush's community of Dilijan, which now comprises former Dilijan, Haghartsin, Teghut, Gosh, Aghavnavank, Khachardzan, and Hovk communities. As reported by the Central Election Commission, nine candidates from Dilijan were elected into the community's 15-member Council of Elders, and 3, 2, 1 candidates from Teghut, Haghartsin, and Gosh, respectively. Hovk, Aghavnavank, and Khachardzan will not have representation in the Council. 

Another Republican candidate Levon Zavaryan was elected the head of  Lori province's community of Tumanyan. Three of the elected Council members are from Tumanyan, two – from Lorut. The communities of Martz, Qarinj, Shamut, and Ahnidzor will each have one representative. Tumanyan's Council of Elders will not have a member from Atan. 

Residents of the Syunik's community of Tatev, comprising the former Shinuhayr, Tatev, Halidzor, Harchis, Svarants, Khot, Tandzatap, Kashuni communities,  elected acting Tatev mayor Republican Murad Simonyan as their new leader. 5 candidates from Shinuhayr were elected into the 11-member Council of Elders, two – from Khot. Tatev, Svarants, Halidzor, and Harchis will each have one Council representative.
