Alek Yenigomshyan, a key member of anti-government movement Founding Parliament and one of the main organizers of protests in support of the armed group besieged inside a Yerevan police station, was detained Wednesday evening by the National Security Service, the official Facebook page of the gunmen calling themselves the “Daredevils of Sasun” reports.
Shortly before being detained, the oppositionist announced that today’s rally which was set to start at 7 pm on the street leading to the occupied police station was moving to Yerevan’s central Freedom Square. Several other protest leaders, Yeghishe Petrosyan, Davit Sanasaryan and Armen Martirosyan, have also been detained.
As of 9 pm, a few hundred people had gathered at the Square and were planning further action.
