Shahen Harutyunyan, son of opposition leader and political prisoner Shant Harutyunyan, might be subjected to administrative penalty for organizing protest demonstrations to demand that those guilty for the death of Artur Sargsyan are punished.
On Wednesday, Harutyunyan received a letter from the Administrative Court, which said that Yerevan mayor Taron Margaryan had filed 5 complaints against him, demanding that Harutyunyan is held responsible for holding gatherings without having notified the head of the community. Harutyunyan’s alleged offense is punishable by a fine in an amount of 100 to 300 times the minimum wage, and 2 of the 5 complaints are already being dealt with by judges Aghasi Darbinyan and Karen Zarikyan.
“There was nothing to notify about because our protest action was completely spontaneous,” Harutyunyan said in conversation with Epress.am.
“I have a prior conviction with 4 years of probation. I’m currently serving a conditional sentence, and a single administrative ruling against me would be enough to put me behind bars,” Harutyunyan wrote on his Facebook page earlier on Thursday.
