The German Cronimet Holding GmbH has been exploiting a mine in the Armenian town of Kajaran and a tailing dam in the Artsvanik village since 2004. Meanwhile, its subsidiary, Cronimet Envirotec GmbH, has recently been awarded the 2017 German Resource Efficiency Prize for its metallic sludges treatment system. The prize was announced by Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) State Secretary Matthias Machnig in late January 2018. Cronimet Holdings GmbH’s other subsidiary, Cronimet Mining, owns 60% of the stock of the Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC) in Kajaran and continues to pollute Armenia’s rivers, the Armenian Environmental Front reports.
