The Russian soldier suspected of the murder of Julieta Ghazaryan in Gyumri is kept in Russian Military Base 102. His lawyer Narine Rshtuni is from Armenia, who also keeps the name of the suspect in secrecy.
“I have no comments as I haven’t discussed it with my client and am not authorized to speak to any media without his consent, including to disclose his name,” said Rshtuni to Epress.am.
To the question how the soldier had found a lawyer, Rshtuni stated that she was working with the Embassy of Russia and the investigative department of the military base for years. “My contacts are available to many soldiers. I have represented many cases and it was not difficult to find me.”
According to preliminary investigation, on December 2, the Russian serviceman of Gyumri’s Russian military base N 102 assaulted the woman cleaning the street in Slabodka district, battered and killed her. In a closed hearing on December 12, Shirak Marz Court of General Jurisdiction issued an arrest warrant for the Russian soldier. According to information disclosed by media, the Russian serviceman is kept in Russian Military Base N 102, however this is neither confirmed nor denied by Armenian and Russian authorities. Earlier, the Embassy of Russia in Armenia had issued a statement where it denied the information of the soldier’s affiliation to the incident and had called on the media “not to drive a wedge between the Armenian-Russian relations.”
