Armenia’s Largest Casino Stripped of License

The Ministry of Finance of Armenia has stripped “Shangri La” Casino of its license. “Shangri La” belongs to prominent oligarch Gagik Tsarukyan’s family, head of the “Prosperous Armenia” party.

On July 8, the Finance Ministry’s Committee Licensing Gambling Games, Lotteries and Casinos stripped the license of “Onira Club” CJSC on the grounds that the company did not pay the official state duty for the third quarter.

“Shangri La” casino is operated by “Onira Club” CJSC part of “Multi Group Concern” owned by Tsarukyan family.

The decision comes after investigation by the National Security Service of Armenia found many irregularities in relation to the operation of “Shangri La” as a consequence of which the state was defrauded in significant amounts of revenues.
