Pipe-Casing of Yerevan Building Under Construction Falls, Locals Call Police

For several months, Yerevan residents have been protesting construction of a multi-purpose high-rise building at 10–12 Sayat Nova Avenue. One of the residents, Hripsime Petrosyan, informed Epress.am that the actions of developer Larco Group are a threat and do not adhere to safety standards. Petrosyan said that iron rods torn from the building yesterday evening fell near children playing in the yard.

"What punishment is this — they built this building under our noses, blocked our air, deprived us of light and wind. We are deprived also of sitting comfortably in our homes […] Now a thousand and one trash falls from the building. Yesterday evening  there was an uproar; we came outside, saw the pipe-casing they had tied came off the building and fell near the children standing below — even a car was damaged. I called the police, with the number 1-70, who said they will come only if there are accidents, injuries, and deaths; then [I called] 1-02 [emergency], they too refused to come, and I got angry, said you bite the heads off soldiers at the border, and in the city center, our [heads]. Then they came, ashamed, wrote up a report, and decided to fence the area, then continue construction work. Basically, if not for yesterday's incident, no one would've thought that the residents are in danger," she said.

Note, for several months residents of nearby buildings have been protesting, saying that the new building is blocking not only the light to their apartments, but also the path to the yard.
