The installation of a monument to Soviet leader Anastas Mikoyan in Yerevan, which caused a great stir in recent weeks, probably will not achieve the result desired by those who came up with the idea, writes local daily Zhoghovurd.
According to the paper, a group of people whose opinions Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan (pictured) takes into account, said installation of the monument could deal a serious blow to the ratings of both the mayor and the Republican Party of Armenia.
"Taron Margaryan decided to heed the advice of those around him, and execution of the decision adopted by the Yerevan Council of Elders will be postponed. This means that the installation of Mikoyan's statue might be cancelled," reports the paper.
