Vardges Gaspari and Argishti Kiviryan, participating in a rally in support of Shahen Harutyunyan, were detained by police outside the General Prosecutor's Office of Armenia around 12:30 pm today.
Speaking to Epress.am, the activists said they were at the police station where administrative proceedings were being drawn up on grounds of the violation of Article 182; that is, "failure to comply with the legitimate requirements of the police".
"I was standing on the sidewalk in front of the building; police officers, pushing and shoving, threw us onto the road, and immediately after that they detained us. Not only police officers, but also Deputy Chief of Central Police Division Vardan Gevorgyan behaved very arrogantly, threatening me, [saying,] 'We'll put on handcuffs and other such things'," said Kiviryan.
Gaspari, in turn, called their arrest as police arbitrariness. "I'm waiting for them to give me the copies of the documents, though I can't read anything — my glasses disappeared while I was being detained."
Note, the preliminary investigation of the case and interrogation of Shahen Harutyunyan, 15, ended today, which is why his supporters held a protest outside the General Investigation Department of the RA Police, then marched to the General Prosecutor's Office.
