Just an hour after Serzh Sargsyan threatened opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan with the possible repeat of the deadly post-election clashes of March 1, 2008, and stormed out of the negotiation room, police violently attacked Pashinyan and several hundreds of demonstrators to prevent them from marching to Yerevan’s Erebuni district. The police fired stun grenades into the crowd and began violently detaining them.
Leaders Nikol Pashinyan, Ararat Mirzoyan and Sasun Mikayelyan were detained by police on the spot. The Special Investigation Service later reported that the three had been officially charged and arrested.
