Newly-Appointed Prime Minister Convinced Economic Growth in Armenia Hampered by Street Rallies
Armenia’s former president Serzh Sargsyan, who was on April 17 elected by the parliament as the country’s new Prime Minister, is convinced that the flow of investors and tourists to Armenia is hampered by the fact that “people hold demonstrations almost every year.” These demonstrations, according to Sargsyan, turn Armenia into an uneasy place, and investors thereby do not want to invest money in the country, which, in turn, hinders economic growth. In a Wednesday interview with Shant TV, the newly-appointed PM said: “How many quiet years did we have? In the past ten years, I mean… Be it external or internal instability… The 2017th perhaps was the only year when there were no rallies in the streets, and tourists could safely come to Yerevan, investors could make their investments… That was the only year, and in that year we had an economic growth of 7.5%.”
